Rockhounding @ Davis Creek, California, Obsidian |
This is a premier mohogany obsidian and needle site. Maps, permits and other tips to electric blue and rainbow digs are obtained at the little store. |
Davis Creek, California, about 40 miles south of Lakeveiw, Oregon, on Hwy. 395, is basically a small local store and resturant. Our meeting and camping place is usually Lassen Creek Campground, about 11 miles north of Davis Creek Store. This map prints really well and will be handy for anyone planning a road trip. Click on a map for a preview, and print from that screen. |
Info for Lassen Creek Campground I'm working on these pages, and will have all this edited to make sense, have all the appropriate info needed for this whole area.....thanks for your patience. The spring water at the campground is not treated and must be boiled, so bringing your own fresh water is preferable. Thunder storms are common this time of year, hot daytime temps and mosquitoes are guaranteed, so come prepared. All that said, this is a great spot, there are tree's and nice shade with a little creek going through. Plans include a potluck for Saturday evening, so please bring a dish if you can. We'll also be holding a silent auction after supper, so bring a few specimens to contribute, and a few bucks to buy that rock you just can't do without. Proceeds from the auction are going to be used for fuel to send club representatives to the NFMS show and annual meeting, also ink and paper for our Newsletters. Of course we'll be organizing multiple excursions to the "Pink Lady Obsidian" location, the "Electric Blue Obsidian" is right there close to the campground, and then trips to the "Obsidian Needle" area. |
